San Diego, California

San Diego is one of America's most popular tourist destinations. The beautiful beaches, kid friendly outdoor activities and the delicious food makes this a must visit place in your travel list.

It was the Memorial day long weekend. We made an impromptu trip to San Diego. We reached San Diego on Sunday morning and checked into Hilton near by the Bayside

Breakfast at Point Loma Cafe

This cute brunch spot offers a tempting menu for any appetite, including classic or contemporary entrees, mouthwatering appetizers, and signature desserts. Kids ages 12 years and under always eat free at Point Loma Cafe!

Coffee and Gelato

Small hidden gem. Ordered 3 gelatos - the service was quick and friendly, and the flavor was great, perfect on a hot day. Prices were very reasonable. There's a cheery little outdoor seating area, or you can take your order to go and enjoy walking along the water.

Spirit of San Diego

It was a wonderful 1 hour cruise north and south on the bay. Very relaxing while listening to one of the staff giving us the history of landmarks round the bay.

Seaport Village

There's plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes here. We had dinner at Edgewater grill and then walked along the water. We saw the Unconditional Surrender statue and the USS Midway.

Fig Tree Cafe - a california eatery

We came here for brunch and had to wait about 1 hour for our table. The restaurant texted me when our table was ready. The hostess at the check in table was very nice and seems to really love his job. We were seated in an enclosed outdoor seating area with tables. It was really clean and cutely decorated -- kept the vacay mode going strong!!

What we ordered:

* Breakfast Sushi ($17.25) Rating: 3/5

* House Cured Salmon Benedict ($17) Rating: 5/5

* Crispy Pork Belly and Grits ($16) Rating: 5/5

* Freshly squeezed orange juice ($4.5) Rating: 5/5

* Cappuccino ($5) Rating: 3/5

The food was absolutely amazing! Breakfast Sushi was not that great because it's rice heavy -- but still good. Next time I'd ask for an extra side of the sauce they put on top!

San Diego Zoo

Right in the heart of Balboa Park, this zoo is a must on special things to do in San Diego. The grounds and enclosures are well maintained, spacious for the animals. San Diego Zoo is one of the cleanest zoos I've been to. It's very family-friendly, great for children and adults. Don't forget to wear some very comfortable shoes because you will be walking a ton!

We loved San Diego so much that we are seriously thinking of buying a property there.

We will be back again to explore the rest of San Diego..
