Royal Caribbean Cruise to Mexico

I love cruising. It's the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure. And the best part? You don't have to worry about packing or flying!

We went for the 5 nights Eastern Caribbean Cruise, stopping at Costa Maya and Cozumel.

What I liked about Royal Caribbean

  • The staff was very friendly

  • Unlimited tasty food/beverages - best part of the trip

  • Spacious Oceanview rooms for a good rate

  • The ship was clean and tidy

  • Activities and games were perfectly organized

  • Royal Caribbean app

  • Smooth check-in process

  • Adult Solarium

  • Different cuisines to try

  • Free ice-cream 24/7 (Chocolate and Vanilla)

  • We need not carry our passports while going to the ports, only our cruise SeaPass is required

  • Cruise is 100% stroller friendly

  • BYOB up to 12 cans or 2 bottles of wine or champagne

  • Passengers are of mixed ages

  • Tasteful interior decor

  • Variety of shows and entertainment

  • One formal dinner night

  • Casinos

Things to watch out while cruising with Royal Caribbean

  • Alcohol on the ship is EXPENSIVE

  • Bottled water was $4 each. To save money, carry an empty bottle to fill water from the food area.

  • Wifi is expensive. The basic package was $99.95 for 1 device for 5 days. Hack - one account can be purchased and used on multiple devices as long as it is not being used simultaneously on more than one device

  • No hair conditioners in the bathroom. Only shampoo. Pack a bottle of conditioner.

  • $16 is charged each day for each person (including kids) as gratuity fee. You receive this bill after you disembark the ship. This fee is not include while booking your tickets

  • It can get a bit chilly inside the ship so carry a sweater

  • Pools are insanely crowded

  • If you are not back from the port on time, the ship will leave without you.

We chose to do this particular cruise for a few reasons. First, it was the cheapest way to visit Mexico. Second, it had an itinerary that covered most of our favorite places in Mexico. Thirdly, we wanted to experience something unique: being on an ocean liner was something I had always wanted to do.

And lastly? Well...we just liked cruises!

First port - COSTA MAYA

Costa Maya is a pretty small town, but it has its own charm. It's located on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, near Cancun and Playa del Carmen.

The best thing to do in Costa Maya is eat at the restaurants along the main drag called Camino Real (real meaning royal). You'll find many delicious Mexican dishes made with local ingredients like seafood and fresh fruit that you can try with one of their many excellent margaritas! There are also plenty of dive bars if you're looking for something more casual and fun before or after dinner.

One of the best authentic Mexican restaurant - The Krazy Lobster

Second port - COZUMEL

If you're into tequila tasting, this is the place for you. There are several restaurants that offer this experience and they will provide you with an array of different types of liquor so that you can taste them all. You'll also have the opportunity to sample fruits and other foods while learning about their history along with what makes them special (e.g., how they were made). The beach is right outside Cozumel city center; it's not crowded at all during peak season but do keep in mind that there may be limited access if there's too much traffic on either side of town due to cruise ships docking nearby or people just wanting some quiet time away from visitors/tourists visiting/etc...

Cost Breakdown (the most interesting part of this blog)

We were 8 people -2 kids included. The whole trip was sponsored by Kevin.
