Banff, you beauty!

If you're looking for a destination that combines stunning natural beauty with outdoor adventure, Banff in the Canadian Rockies is the perfect choice. Located in Alberta, Canada, Banff is a picturesque town nestled in the heart of Banff National Park. I recently had the opportunity to visit Banff, and it was truly an unforgettable experience.

Flight to Alberta, Canada

We flew with WestJet airlines for the first time from George Bush International Airport (IAH). We were able to get into the Air France Lounge and Kevin could access the Amex Centurion Lounge. The food at the Centurion Lounge was so good that Kevin lost track of time and almost missed the flight. The gate agent had to call his name at least 5 times before they closed the gates. The flight was for 4 hours and 17 mins.

We were greeted at the airport by my dear friends Mathew and Jiffy. Mathew and I were high school friends (Toc-H School, Kochi). My bestie Joélle (pronounced as Jo-well) flew from Toronto, Canada. I was super excited to meet them all after a year. Oh and it was Kevin's first trip to Canada.

Mathew and Jiffy had prepared their special Chicken Biriyani and Banofee Pie for us to celebrate the reunion.

Day 1

Heritage Park

We had some english breakfast in the morning and headed to the Heritage Park. We got to ride in a steam engine and explore the old Canada. With more than 200 exhibits and attractions spread over 127 acres of lush parkland, Heritage Park Historical Village has a lot to offer both the history buff and the pleasure seeker.

Downhill Karting

The next stop was the Downhill Karting by Skyline Luge Calgary, located at the WinSport facility. This is a fun and fast-paced activity suitable for people of all ages and abilities. We got to do three rounds.

Lazy River Rafting

For the third activity, Jiffy was able to join us after her work. We did the lazy river rafting at Bow river for 2 hours. Make sure to pack some drinks and snacks if you plan to go.

Day 2

Banff National Park

We headed to Banff National Park at 9:30 am. It was a drive for almost 2 hours. The drive to Banff National Park is known for its stunning scenic beauty, with breathtaking views of the Canadian Rockies and the surrounding wilderness.

Mountain Restaurant

Great view and the food was ok. Here is where we met Roshan and Nidhi. Roshan, Mathew and I went to the same high school. We were all classmates.

Lake Louise Canoeing

We reached Lake Louise around 2:00 pm. The view was BREATHTAKING with the turquoise water and mountains. A heaven on Earth.

There was a one hour wait to rent the Canoe as June is a busy tourist season.

TIP: If you or your friends live near Banff, bring your own Canoe or paddle board with lifejackets. Renting the Canoe is expensive. It cost us around $170 CAD to book a 3 person Canoe. Please remember to use a life jacket as the water was 230 feet deep and 2 degree Celsius.

Fairmont Chateau

After the 1 hour canoeing, we headed to the very famous Fairmont Chateau for coffee and desserts. The weather, ambience and view - it was all perfect!

Banff Town

Banff Town is a picturesque town located in the heart of Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. BeaverTails dessert shop is a must visit. Beaver Tails is a Canadian pastry that is shaped like a beaver's tail, hence the name. It is made from whole wheat dough that is stretched into the shape of a beaver's tail, deep-fried, and then topped with a variety of sweet toppings such as cinnamon sugar, chocolate hazelnut spread, or maple butter.

Cascade of Time garden

Cascade of Time garden features a variety of colorful flowers, trees, and shrubs, as well as several water features, including a small waterfall and a pond. The garden is designed to showcase the natural beauty of the area and is a popular spot for photography and relaxation.

Mountain Chateau

Mathew selected this cute cabin for all of us to stay that night. We spend our time playing cards till 3:30 am in the morning.

Day 3

Banff Gondola

The Banff Gondola is a popular attraction located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The gondola took us on an eight-minute ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain, where we could enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The views from the top of Sulphur Mountain are truly breathtaking and offer a unique perspective on the natural beauty of the area.

Watch the video at the end of this blog to see the Banff Gondola ride.

Heading back to the airport

This lounge has a wide array of complimentary food and drinks for guests to enjoy. They have a range of complimentary alcoholic drinks with premium alcoholic brands available to guests. In addition to the buffet and hot and cold food, there are snacks and nibbles for guests to enjoy.

Dear Mathew, Jiffy, Roshan, Nidhi and Joelle!

I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for showing us around Banff during our recent visit.

Your knowledge of the area and your willingness to share your favorite spots with us made the trip truly unforgettable. From the stunning views at the top of Sulphur Mountain to the delicious treats at BeaverTails, every moment was filled with adventure and wonder.

I feel incredibly lucky to have friends like you who are not only generous with their time and energy, but who also have a deep love and appreciation for the natural beauty of the world around us. Thank you again for everything you did to make our visit to Banff so special.

I can't wait to return the favor and show you around Houston soon.
